چکیده

We compute the non-Gaussianity of the curvature perturbation generated by ekpyrotic collapse with multiple fields. The transition from the multi-field scaling solution to a single-field dominated regime converts initial isocurvature field perturbations to an almost scale-invariant comoving curvature perturbation. In the specific model of two fields, φ1 and φ2, with exponential potentials, −Vi exp(−ciφi), we calculate the bispectrum of the resulting curvature perturbation. We find that the non-Gaussianity is dominated by non-linear evolution on super-Hubble scales and hence is of the local form. The non-linear parameter of the curvature perturbation is given by fNL = 5c 2 j/12, where cj is the exponent of the potential for the field which becomes sub-dominant at late times. Since cj must be large, in order to generate an almost scale invariant spectrum, the non-Gaussianity is inevitably large. Thus, the model is strongly constrained by observational bounds on the spectral index and non-Gaussianity.

Curvature perturbations from ekpyrotic collapse with multiple fields

A scale-invariant spectrum of isocurvature perturbations is generated during collapse in the ekpyrotic scaling solution in models where multiple fields have steep negative exponential potentials. The scale invariance of the spectrum is realized by a tachyonic instability in the isocurvature field. This instability drives the scaling solution to the late time attractor that is the old ekpyrotic ...

Non-Gaussianities in New Ekpyrotic Cosmology.

The new ekpyrotic model is an alternative scenario of the early Universe which relies on a phase of slow contraction before the big bang. We calculate the 3-point and 4-point correlation functions of primordial density perturbations and find a generically large non-Gaussian signal, just below the current sensitivity level of cosmic microwave background experiments. This is in contrast with slow...

Ekpyrotic collapse with multiple fields

A scale invariant spectrum of isocurvature perturbations is generated during collapse in the scaling solution in models where two or more fields have steep negative exponential potentials. The scale invariance of the spectrum is realised by a tachyonic instability in the isocurvature field. We show that this instability is due to the fact that the scaling solution is a saddle point in the phase...

Rapidly-Varying Speed of Sound, Scale Invariance and Non-Gaussian Signatures

We show that curvature perturbations acquire a scale invariant spectrum for any constant equation of state, provided the fluid has a suitably time-dependent sound speed. In order for modes to exit the physical horizon, and in order to solve the usual problems of standard big bang cosmology, we argue that the only allowed possibilities are inflationary (albeit not necessarily slow-roll) expansio...

Toward a Cosmological Dual to Inflation

We derive all single-field cosmologies with unit sound speed that generate scale invariant curvature perturbations on a dynamical attractor background. We identify three distinct phases: slow-roll inflation; a slowly contracting adiabatic ekpyrotic phase, described by a rapidly varying equation of state; and a novel adiabatic ekpyrotic phase on a slowly expanding background. All of these yield ...
